Steve Schrantz retired from his 29-year career at Fifth Third Bank as executive vice president in charge of commercial banking in 2004.
He was instrumental in the growth of Fifth Third Bancorp’s commercial banking activities. Under Steve’s management, commercial loans at Fifth Third grew from $2.4 billion in 1989 to $25 billion in 2004. Deposits increased 15 times, and fee income increased 22 times.
Steve directed the establishment of the International Department, the Midwest’s largest foreign exchange dealer with offices in Brussels and Canada in 2005.
During this period, Fifth Third established 15 new affiliate banks through acquisitions or de-novo activities. Steve directed the establishment of commercial departments in these new affiliates and oversaw the integration activities for the commercial division in the innumerable acquisitions completed by Fifth Third.
Most importantly, Steve hired the key managers currently leading Fifth Third’s commercial division. Individuals who worked for Steve dot the senior management positions across Fifth Third’s footprint. Steve has been very active in the Greater Cincinnati community. He currently serves on a variety of boards including River Cities Capital Funds and the Board of Trustees of the College of Mount Saint Joseph and is Chairman of the Board of Tri-Health.
He is a former Association for Corporate Growth Dealmaker of the Year.
