Mike Turnbull is a Senior Advisor at ArkMalibu and a subject matter expert in the healthcare/medical device field. He recently retired from Abbott Labs after thirty+ years in the medical device business. During Mike’s career, he held sales and senior sales management positions at both large corporations and several start-up companies. He was involved with many cutting-edge technologies including: one of the earliest cochlear implants, the Jarvik-7 total artificial heart, the first implantable wireless loop recorder (ECG monitor), regenerative tissue technology and the #1 implantable heart pump in the world.
While sales and sales management were the primary focus of his career, Mike’s roles expanded into strategic planning, marketing, reimbursement, regulatory and clinical affairs in his work with the startup companies. Mike highlights his experience as the Director of Sales & Clinical Services at Thoratec Corporation from April of 1997 to October of 2006 where, under his direction, the field organization grew from two individuals to 40+ and annual sales grew from less than $10M in 1996 to $200M+. He returned to Thoratec in 2014, moving into a senior sales management role. Thoratec was acquired in 2015 by St. Jude Medical for $3.3 billion, and in 2017, Abbott acquired St. Jude Medical for $25B.
Mike is a graduate of Miami University. He and his wife Cheryl live in Columbus, OH and are the proud parents of five children and have two Akitas, Koda and Kyra. In his free time, Mike enjoys playing golf, listening to music, attending the theatre, traveling, and enjoying fine wine.
